At the beginning of March, the annual two sessions were held in Beijing. As a grand gathering of the people, every detail of the two sessions touches people's hearts and connects China's development with people's lives.

我們看到人大代表叫“NPC deputies”，政協(xié)委員叫 CPPCC memebers——中國的這些政治概念不能說錯，英文翻譯自然也很有講究。

先來說說政協(xié)委員為啥是 members？

這個比較好理解，因為“委員”嘛，就是“委員會的成員”，既然是成員，用 members 就不難理解了。

下面就來講人大代表的“deputy”，比較有門道了：

根據(jù)牛津詞典的解釋，deputy 主要有兩個意思：

1）副手、副職

2）（某些國家的）議員

來看 CGTN 的這段解釋：

NPC deputies, or Chinese national lawmakers, differ from members of parliament in the West, who are generally full-time politicians and have their own staff and campaign teams. NPC deputies are part-time and indeed many are ordinary citizens.

人大代表，中國國家立法者，和西方議會有所區(qū)別。在西方，議會成員是全職的從政人員，他們有自己的工作人員以及競選團隊。而人大代表是兼職的，事實上很多人大代表平時就是普通公民。

可見，deputy 指“某人不在時代表其行使權(quán)力的人”，也是“副”的概念。

所以，deputy 很符合人大代表的概念，因為人大代表就是替人民行使權(quán)力的人。
